Thai Ridgeback has been around since the Middle Ages. A very popular breed in Thailand, this breed was probably inbred for centuries throughout the country. They are mostly used as a guard dog and companion dog. It is one of the three breeds in the world that has hair that runs in the opposite direction to the rest of the coat on their back, hence the name.
physical appearance
Thai Ridgeback is a medium sized dog, with triangular upright ears, very muscular with short, smooth coat. The unique ridge on its back usually becomes more pronounced as it grows older. Because they don’t have an undercoat, Ridgebacks hair doesn’t usually concern people with allergies. They only have one solid coat color, varying from red, fawn, black, and blue. The ridge made eight very distinct patterns: needle, feather, bowling pin, lute, saddleback, leaf, and arrow. The broader the ridge, the more expensive it becomes.
